To run Interstate '76 or Nitro Riders in Glide on those cards, you need a Glide Wrapper to act as a Glide emulator, like dgVoodoo (the name comes from the old 3Dfx Voodoo videocards). Most modern videocards do not support 3Dfx based Glide anymore. If you are experiencing problems to get the game to run in Glide (OpenGL) mode, these steps might be helpful.

There are other ways to run game than just in software mode. I have not tested the launcher but many others have on the forum. There are two versions there (v1.5 without dgVoodoo/Glide built-in and v2.0 with dgVoodoo/Glide support built-in). Over on the GOG.com forum Hip63 created a launcher to make running Interstate 76 easier. 2.3 pause (this can be removed if you find the need to press enter to quit the script annoying).2.2 start /w i76.exe -glide (use nitro.exe for Nitro Riders, use - d3d instead of -glide to run the game in D3D mode). Most likely this is because the game doesn't detect the cd.

* The cdda music and cutscenes don't seem to work for now. * The control setup menu can throw an error when opening, but you can also modify the INPUT.xxx/KEYBOARD.MAP files directly

* If the sound effects contain jitter, try disabling any hardware acceleration options You can select the rendering mode, either by launching the game with "splash.exe", or by passing the right argument to i76.exe (-glide, -d3d, etc.). Anyway, I can't say that glide rendering looks any better than the default software mode, but it might solve the artifacts listed above. To run the game with Glide, you can use the dgVoodoo2 wrapper, which can be found on, or the nGlide wrapper, PowerVR and Rendition don't have any compatibility wrapper as far as I know. Direct3D is limited to 640x480, and causes a page read fault on wine, so is to be avoided.

* The gold version (or original game with gold patch applied) gives the option of playing the game with Direct3D, Rendition, Glide or PowerVR instead of software rendering.

Some of these problems seem to disappear when run in a higher/lower resolution mode, but even on windows there doesn't seem to be a definite solution for these issues (other than slowing down the machine). * The game has quite a few artifacts when run on fast (modern) computers: * Installing the game doesn't require any workarounds (both the gold version and original release) Some issues with interstate '76 (the fixme's, debug output and cd detection) could be solved, but the fundamental issues (lack of IP multiplayer mode, wobbly wheels, etc.) seem to be more related to shoddy programming and are not resolvable in wine itself (as far as I can see).

The sound effects stutter at times (though this might be caused by my alsa setup, I really have no idea how to check this).Ĭontrary to the 1.0 version, this one even refuses to start without setting the mode to "Windows 95". I can't figure out how to make the game host/join an ANET multiplayer game, though this has always been an issue, even on windows. I can't figure out how to make the game accept the second CD, so cutscenes and background music are not available.

wine32 throws a few warnings during the game (though less than in the 1.0 version) Direct3D mode exit with "Unhandled exception: privileged instruction in 32-bit code." or some page fault. 3dfx, Rendition and PowerVR don't work without some compatibility wrapper. Menus work, keyboard and joystick config work. Training, scenario and melee mode all work as should. The game in software-rendered mode behaves similar to the original game (that is: playable, but with minor issues)
